PRAYER WARRIORS FOR PRISONERS CORRESPONDENCE GUIDELINES:
You may send paper bookmarks, greeting cards and Christian tracts. These things go a long way in prisons. They are read repeatedly, shared with other prisoners and used as wall decorations and sometimes sent home to family members.
Write to the prisoner directly at the facility address on the prayer request form. Sign your FIRST NAME ONLY, and ALWAYS USE THE P.W.F.P. RETURN ADDRESS. This is for your protection. Never give a prisoner your phone number or personal address. The Office of Volunteer Services of the Colorado Department of Corrections has instructed us that anyone volunteering under the Prayer Warriors for Prisoners program who allows offenders to correspond with them directly will be considered in violation of Colorado Department of Corrections Administrative Regulation 900-1, and will be dismissed from the Prayer Warriors for Prisoners program in order to maintain the integrity of the program.
DO NOT SEND Bibles, money (money orders), stamps, gifts, books, posters, photographs of yourself or family members, etc. If you are asked by a prisoner for such items, even Bibles, Colorado Department of Corrections and P.W.F.P. policies do NOT allow this. Such items would be considered contraband. Never contact a prisoner’s family or anyone outside, i.e., phone calls, etc. If you are concerned about something a prisoner writes, immediately contact the chaplain of the facility or Jan at 719-275-6971. Letters and prayer requests received through the P.W.F.P. FROM prisoners are monitored (read) for your protection as well as theirs and ours. If the correspondence becomes questionable, as to intent and purpose, your participation in PWFP could be subject to termination. Remember the mission purpose of this ministry; first and most importantly, PRAYER; secondly to evangelize, disciple and encourage incarcerated men and women.
