January/February 2007

“I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers.”

Dec 2006 / Jan-Feb 2007

Dear Mission Partners,
2006 was an incredible year of growth for Prayer Warriors For Prisoners! You play a major role and I want to thank you sincerely for doing your part. Everyone has a part and if we just do OUR part, the job gets done, the kingdom grows and Jesus is glorified. Isn’t that what our purpose is?
Testimonies from prisoners, after receiving Christmas cards, bring tears of joy to everyone reading them, especially volunteers who took time to include this outreach in their holiday mission projects. Card parties took place not just in Colorado, but all over the country, as folks gathered to participate in this massive project to reach “Jesus in prison” with a Christmas card. Over 12,000 Christmas cards were mailed to prisoners including Hawaii and Uganda. Not only are prisoners’ hearts touched through this outreach but lives of countless volunteers are changed because they realize they really DID touch Jesus in prison and someone’s life was changed for eternity. PWFP SENDS A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED.

Deanne Lilgerose of Denver gathered 18 eager helpers for her “PWFP Christmas Card” party and within hours the group prepared 1,075 cards to mail to prisoners.  She had everything ready!  Stamps and cards were donated by caring individuals.  Deanne bubbled with enthusiasm and even the men who participated had a great time.  Everyone helped.

Deanne offers suggestions to husband, Danny, just before telling him they are sending 5,000 cards next year!
Over forty ladies gathered at the First Baptist Church in Pueblo for their PWFP Christmas card party, organized by Kathleen Snyder.  There was much laughter, music, food and fun.  Kathleen had creatively strewn Christmas cards down the center of the hallway to mark the path to Fellowship Hall where the tables were beautifully decorated for the event.  WHAT FUN!

PLEASE KEEP US IN PRAYER!   Prayer requests and responses from Christmas cards have had us buried. If you are not an active prayer warrior and receive a prayer request please just return it if you choose not to pray.  Thank you for your patience.  It takes a minute to get used to the system.  Some requests have dates earlier than December but often they don’t arrive from chaplains until long after they are written.  Lori, our new data entry volunteer, Rick and I are working hard to catch up.  We know God hears the prayers before they are written, however, there are still needs we can lift in prayer.  God knows those needs.  Praise reports from prisoners encourage us.  God IS answering their prayers.              Your prayers make a difference!

SOME VOLUNTEERS SPENT HOURS WRITING ENCOURAGING WORDS TO PRISONERS

“For many years, my input into PWFP was prayer for Jan and the ministry and praying over prayer requests from prisoners.  As I witnessed the financial struggles the ministry was going through I felt we had to do more.  Rick, Jan’s husband said, “If volunteers would just donate a book of stamps a month it would really help.”  I thought, “We could do that.”  Then, when I heard how much time Rick was spending on the computer entering names from Christmas card lists from prisons, my husband, Norman, and I decided we could help with that.  As you can see, the Lord has us wading deeper and deeper into the PWFP ministry. However, it wasn’t until this year that my heart was deeply touched.  It started in a discipleship class at my church where I learned the basics of leading people to Christ and discipling them.
“I volunteered, once again, to send Christmas cards to prisoners through the PWFP outreach.  Many times I wanted to just write a few verses of Scripture but the Lord wouldn‘t let me stop until I had written the salvation message. From those cards, I received many wonderful responses from prisoners but none so touching as the last one.  The prisoner wrote, “Since I’ve been in prison, I’ve been all alone.  I received a card from your ministry.   The message inside your card hit me hard.  There were some Bible verses and then I read the beautiful note.  It said, “He’s real, David!  Seek Him and He will change your life.  I know because He changed mine!”  I don’t know why, but I started to cry.  I suddenly realized I needed to get on my knees and I cried more than I ever cried in my entire life.” That card really touched me.”  This man’s life has been forever touched by Jesus because of a Christmas card telling him of Jesus’ love for him. WOW!  I was amazed that God would use ME to touch someone so deeply.”  (Deloris Walter)

APRIL 20-29, 2007 FLORIDA MISSION TRIP
God opened Florida to us through Christmas cards and the Freedom Walk newsletter. The need to do follow up mission work is very clear.  Please keep this in prayer and any help you can give with travel expenses would be greatly appreciated.  The High Atmosphere Blue Grass Band will be with us as well as Mitch and Gail Keirsey of Keirsey Ministries and board member, Lt. Col Steven Grimo, conductor of the Air Force Academy Band.  Another gentleman, Scott Fredricks, of Rogers, Arkansas, will participate also.  Scott deeply loves Jesus and wants to serve.  His passion is to reach prisoners for Christ and we want to encourage him in that.  Round trip air fair for each of us is around $250.   God is already opening homes for places to stay.  Please keep us in prayer as details are worked out and we see what prison doors God opens for PWFP worship services in Florida.   God bless you for your faithfulness.
